Five founding deities. Five vanished civilisations. Hundreds of sculpted faces, painted like gemstones, assembled into myth. 1-Cosmogony is a monumental mixed media series available for museum acquisition, and a film has been made to tell its story.
Karine Mimoun has developed a visual language that is entirely her own: large-format works that are simultaneously paintings and sculptures, built from hundreds of individually sculpted faces, each one distinct in form, expression and trompe-l’oeil treatment, assembled into fractal compositions where the individual dissolves into the collective and the fragment gives rise to the force of the symbol.
At a moment when questions of identity, belonging and collective memory are among the most urgent in contemporary culture, her practice offers something rare: a formally unprecedented body of work that asks what it means to be human, and what we are building together as fragments of a shared humanity.
